A man has won more than £92,000 after betting just £2 on a football accumulator.

Dean Clay, 48, correctly predicted 14 outcomes on this weekend’s football, including wins for Chelsea, Southampton and Crystal Palace.

The Chelsea fan, who has just bought a house and is expecting his first child, has scooped £92,944 – thanks to an additional bonus bookmakers Coral were offering.

Mr Clay couldn’t believe his luck when all of his Saturday predictions landed and then the last one came in on Sunday.

He originally thought he had won £69,882 but when he went to his local Coral shop, in Chandler’s Ford, Eastleigh, Hants, he was told he had actually won a bonus taking his total winnings up to £92,944.

He said: “When we went in this morning and they told us about the bonus, our legs nearly gave way.

“The only slight inclination I had about the bonus was that someone on Twitter said you may be in line for a bonus on a win of that size but I didn’t think any more of it.

“It’s just amazing.”

Mr Clay, of Chandler’s Ford, Eastleigh, Hants, and his wife Laura, 32, had finalised the mortgage on a new home on Friday before scooping the £92,000 win over the weekend.

Mr Clay, a group risk account manager for Aviva UK, often places three £2 bets each week – and takes part in the bookmakers Coral’s weekend coupon.

For the bet to land, Mr Clay needed Burnley to draw with West Brom on Sunday afternoon – but was too nervous to watch the game and opted instead to play a round of golf.

He said: “I couldn’t bear to watch the game and when I heard Burnley were winning 2-0, I thought it was game over.

“I was on the 16th hole when I realised I had won. I did not know what to do with myself. I just had a feeling of amazement.”

The game finished 2-2.

He added: “I needed a stiff drink, I couldn’t believe it. Things like this don’t happen to ordinary people like me!

“My wife and I were both up at 4am this morning, drinking tea and still trying to process it all.”

The couple, who are expecting their first child in July, will be using their winnings to put a bigger deposit down on their new home.

Mr Clay said: “We want to pay quite a bit more for the deposit on the house which will make life a bit easier.

“And we’ll put money aside for the new baby, who is due in July, and of course we’ll share the good fortune with family and friends.”

Coral spokeswoman Nicola McGeady said: “To predict 14 correct outcomes is a fantastic achievement and we couldn’t have asked for a worthier winner than Mr Clay.

“Over the last couple of weeks we have seen so many customers win life-changing sums of money for just small stakes, proving you don’t have to stake big to win big money.”

Mr Clay’s winning accumulator:

Chelsea win, Middlesbrough win, Derby win, Bristol Rovers win, Preston win, Barnet win, Southampton win, Swansea draw, Sheffield Wednesday draw, Bournemouth win, Crystal Palace win, MK Dons draw, Huddersfield win, Burnley draw.
